The Choice

One day there were specks in the sky
There were four floating figures
Heading towards me with abandon
They were L and O and V and E

Eyes shining, hands outstretched I bade them in
They surveyed the room full of sunshine and smiled
Settling in the armchairs, the room began to glow
Comfortable in warmth and welcome

Then came the cramps sitting so long
The pain grew unbearable
Cracks appeared in the windows
Blue dust and brown leaves filled the room

Now the room lies nearly bare
Stripped of its residents,
Tolerance, Patience, Kindness
The four figures are floating above
Peering through the dense fog of life
Dejected yet hopeful moving between two choices
To say je vole or I love.

By Swati Nair
"I am from Bangalore, India. I am a writer, traveller, reader, learner. Passing through life trying to live it. Getting to know other travellers along the way. Some I have lost, few I have gained, a couple I have kept for life. Weary of the course of life at times yet curious, mesmerised by the baubles that the world has to offer, I trek the unflagged roads. A wanderer. No saint. A woman and a child I see. Two figures when you see up close but far down the path they merge. I am that and I always will be for I know not of any other."
